With the findings from this study, researchers are hoping to influence food manufacturers to reduce or even eliminate added sugars to their products to help prevent obesity and heart disease. In some state in the US they have gone as far as limiting the consumption of sugar by placing a tax on soft drinks. They hope this step will keep people healthier.

With just a half-cent sales tax on sugary soft drinks can result in reducing the consumption of these beverages by 10 gallons each year. That’s a reduction of 50 gallons to 40 gallons.
