Choosing Microsoft MCSE Training 2009
If you’re thinking about studying to get an MCSE, it’s likely you’ll come into one of two categories. You could be about to get into the IT environment, and your research tells you the IT industry has a huge demand for men and women who are commercially qualified. On the other hand you could be a knowledgeable person ready to consolidate your skill-set with the MCSE qualification.
As you try to find out more, you will discover companies that short-change you by failing to provide the most up-to-date Microsoft version. Steer clear of training companies like these as it will create challenges for you at exam time. If you’re learning from the wrong version, it will be hard to pass. Don’t get bullied into a course for MCSE before having all your questions answered. Look for a training company that will spend time helping and advising you on an appropriate training track for meeting your goals.
Which questions do we need to be raising if we want to take onboard the understanding necessary? Because it’s evident there are some somewhat dazzling possibilities for us all to look at.
Ignore any salesman who just tells you what course you should do without a decent chat so as to understand your abilities and level of experience. Always check they have access to a generous choice of training products so they’re able to give you an appropriate solution. With some commercial experience or qualifications, your starting-point of learning is different from a beginner. Consider starting with some basic Microsoft package and Windows skills first. Beginning there can make the transition to higher-level learning a a little easier.
There is no way of over emphasising this: Always get full 24×7 support from professional instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t adhere to this. Never accept study programmes that only provide support to trainees via an out-sourced call-centre message system after office-staff have gone home. Trainers will always try to hide the importance of this issue. The bottom line is – you want to be supported when you need the help – not at their convenience.
It’s possible to find professional companies who offer direct-access support at all times – even in the middle of the night. Never make do with anything less. Support round-the-clock is the only viable option with technical learning. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; but for most of us, we’re out at work while the support is live.
We’d hazard a guess that you’re a practical sort of person – the ‘hands-on’ personality type. If you’re like us, the trial of reading reference books and manuals is something you’ll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but it’s not ideal. You should use video and multimedia based materials if book-based learning really isn’t your style. Studies in learning psychology have shown that much more of what we learn in remembered when we use all our senses, and we take action to use what we’ve learned.
Learning is now available in the form of CD and DVD ROM’s, so everything is learned directly from your own PC. Video streaming means you can watch instructors demonstrating how it’s all done, and then practice yourself – with interactive lab sessions. Each company you’re contemplating should be able to show you samples of their training materials. You should hope for instructor-led videos and a wide selection of interactive elements.
Often, companies will only use online training only; sometimes you can get away with this – but, think what will happen if internet access is lost or you only get very a very slow connection sometimes. It’s preferable to have actual CD or DVD ROMs that removes the issue entirely.
If you may be starting with a training company that is still using ‘in-centre’ days as a feature of their programme, then consider these difficulties reported by the majority of students:
* Loads of travelling to and from the workshop centre – usually quite a distance away.
* Asking for frequent time off work – typical trainers only offer Mon-Fri class availability and link several days together. This can be hard for a lot of working people, and this is made worse if travelling time is added into the mix.
* The majority of us think four weeks vacation allowance is not really enough. Spend a big chunk of this for training classes and see your problems doubled.
* Training classes usually become quickly full, so we end up having to take a less-than-ideal slot.
* You may prefer to move at a different pace to others in the class. Sometimes this causes a lot of tension amongst the class.
* The growing costs associated with travel – travelling to the training facility plus accommodation for the duration can cost a lot with each visit. If you only assumed an average of 5 to 10 classes costing around 35 pounds for one over-night room, plus forty pounds for petrol and food at 15.00, we find an extra four to nine hundred pounds of extra costs to cover.
* We all enjoy our privacy. We don’t want to risk throwing away any possible promotion that we’re owed because our employer knows we’re retraining.
* It’s not unusual to avoid posing questions in a room full of our fellow attendees – to avoid appearing stupid.
* You should remember, events are simply unreachable, where you live away for part of the week.
Surely it makes a lot more sense to take classes at a time that’s convenient for you – not the school – and utilise virtual lab environments with videos of your instructors. Think… If you’ve got a notebook PC then you could study wherever you happen to be at that time. And live 24 hr-a-day support is just a web-browser away in case you get challenged. You could repeat the elements as often as you need to prep for an exam. There’s absolutely no need to jot down any notes as the teaching is yours forever. While this can’t completely remove every problem, it definitely removes stress and makes things simpler. You’ve also got less hassle, travel and costs.
Doing your bit in progressive developments in new technology gives you the best job satisfaction ever. You personally play your part in creating a future for us all. There are people who believe that the revolution in technology we have experienced is lowering its pace. This couldn’t be more wrong. Terrific advances are ahead of us, and the internet particularly will be the biggest thing to affect the way we live.
And don’t forget that on average, the income of a person in the IT market throughout this country is significantly more than the national average salary, so in general you will be in a good position to gain significantly more as a trained IT professional, than you’d expect to earn elsewhere. As the IT industry keeps growing at an unprecedented rate, it’s likely that the requirement for certified IT professionals will remain buoyant for quite some time to come.
